History

East Paris Baptist Church began as the Bible Baptist Church of Paris, TX and was founded on July 15, 1942.  It began in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Steelman with 34 charter members.  The first minister to the new congregation was Rev. E.J. Ruff (1942-44).  At first, the church met in a rented building on Clarksville Street across from Paris Junior College.

  • May 1943               Purchased property at 13th and Houston
  • March 1946           Changed name to East Paris Baptist Church
  • August 1946          Joined the Southern Baptist Convention
  • January 1948       Moved into building on 13th and Houston
  • 1966                        Construction of new Sanctuary on Lamar Ave
  • 1982                        Family Life Center constructed on Lamar Ave
  • February 1991      New property purchased on Collegiate Dr
  • June 1994             Ground breaking held for new Sanctuary
  • Easter 1995           First services held at new location with over 1400 in attendance
  • June 1998             Church property on Lamar Avenue is sold
  • November 1999    Family Life/Education Building completed
  • November 2000   3 acres of adjacent property purchased
